Cool Off at These Refreshing Spots in Hollywood

There are ways to beat the heat, though, and frequenting Hollywood’s dining and drinking establishments is one of them. Here you’ll find some cool spots serving refreshing treats to combat the humidity.

South Florida can get hot – like really hot. This is especially true in the summer, a time when shorts and tank tops become a part of one’s daily wardrobe. There are ways to beat the heat, though, and frequenting Hollywood’s dining and drinking establishments is one of them.

Below, you’ll find some cool spots serving refreshing treats to combat the humidity.

Eattitude

It’s never too late to work on your beach body in sunny SoFlo, and Eattitude makes it easy with a health-conscious approach to smoothies and other tasty treats.

Take your pick from an extensive list of beverages: Those in the mood to recover from a night out on the town can opt for Detox Juices like the Breathe (carrot, green apple, spinach, better) or a Booster (cucumber, beet, green apple and lime), while other selections like the Berry Acai (acai, blackberry, blueberry, strawberry, coconut milk, organic vanilla protein) are perfect any time of day.

Siciliano’s Frozen Custard

Not interested in healthy treats? Say hello to Siciliano’s Frozen Custard, an unassuming cozy shack that’s home to some decadent sweets. The name says it all: Expect all things custard here. You can opt for standard vanilla or chocolate or choose one of their special flavors that rotate regularly.

Swirls are also available along with ice cream sandwiches and other diet-destroying fare. Because of the place’s size, the lines can get a little long. Our suggestion: Show up early or at an off time if you’re not the patient type. Best of all, prices are more than reasonable – a small cup of custard will run you under $3. What a bargain.

Portico

Sometimes, it’s too nice of a day to sit inside and enjoy an ice cold beer. Instead, enjoy that ice cold brew at Portico, Diplomat Resort’s signature beer and wine garden. Although it’s all outdoors, Portico features umbrellas and other shelter to shield you from the sun, keeping you cool enough to take in the gorgeous waterfront view.

Don’t miss the 5 p,m. happy hour, during which guests can order an assortment of offerings for just five bucks. From burgers and tacos to baby back ribs and lobster rolls, there’s no shortage of fare to complement the restaurant’s suds and grapes on tap. And if you do feel like soaking up some sun, there are outdoor games like Jenga and Ping-Pong to keep you busy.

J28 Sandwich Bar

We know what you’re thinking: “What’s so refreshing about a sandwich bar?” We have two words for you: lucuma smoothie. The Peruvian fruit is blended with ice and water or milk to create a drink that can double as dessert. It’s hard to describe, but there’s just something about this $5 smoothie that screams “summer.”

The chicha (Peruvian purple corn drink) is another highlight here and just as refreshing but a bit less heavy. Don’t let the purple corn thing deter you: The drink is legit.

Yellow Green Farmers Market

Foodies have reason to celebrate at Yellow Green Farmers Market. The weekend affair brings together a plethora of vendors for two food-filled days. You can come back week after week and never run out of things to try. Whether it’s your first time at the market or your fifth, the following three spots never disappoint.

Fuzen Rolled Ice Cream

Forget scoops of ice cream: Rolls of ice cream are all the rage these days. You’ve probably seen rolled ice cream blowing up social media and making everyone rethink science (“How do you roll ice cream? That’s crazy!”).

You’ll find this scientific outlier at Fuzen Rolled Ice Cream. The Yellow Green Farmers Market tenant gives guests a full view of the rolling process, which is just as interesting as the finished product. There are even non-dairy options for customers with sensitivities or other health concerns.  You have no excuse NOT to try it.

Fresh Coco

Another Yellow Green Farmers Market tenant, Fresh Coco takes you on a trip to the Caribbean without leaving Hollywood. Coconuts are the main attraction here, with water and smoothies galore. A toppings bar lets you enhance the flavor of your beverage, but it’s so fresh and flavorful already that we suggest you try it on its own first. The next time you want to avoid frying in the sun, seek refuge at Fresh Coco and wash down one or two of these things.

Exotic Juices

What if there was a place where you can try just about any juice you could think of? Welcome to Exotic Juices. This cool spot at Yellow Green Farmers Market is hard to miss. Their giant containers of colorful liquids can be spotted from a distance, and their contents are as tasty as they are eye-catching. Newbies should start with the signature dragonfruit flavor and then try to get a little more “exotic” with tamarind, ginger and other selections.
