February is around the corner, and football fans know what that means: Super Bowl Sunday is upon us. Where will you be on Sunday, February 3? Hopefully, in front of a television. If you or your friend is hosting a Super Bowl watch party, reconsider and let someone else handle the cleanup.
Plenty of bars and restaurants throughout Hollywood will have a big game on the screen and offer discounted drinks and food. Stop into one of these spots to watch the Super Bowl with fellow football fans:
Shenanigans Sports Pub
Don’t let the name fool you: There’s no funny business when it comes to this establishment’s beverages and bites. First of all, it’s happy hour all day every day at Shenanigans, so you’re already getting your money’s worth. Beer is bountiful here, and the place shows local breweries a lot of love; expect to find the likes of Funky Buddha, Saltwater Brewing and other big favourites on any given day here.
You’re going to need all that booze to wash down the equally extensive food offerings. Items like fried calamari, wahoo fish dip and cracked conch are perfect for sharing while your eyes are glued to the televisions. Rather not share your food? Get your own burger, of which there are many to choose from. There is a gorgonzola burger, a BBQ cheddar burger and even a Swiss Alps burger (sautéed mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese) to push your diet to the curb. Fun fact: the kitchen is open until 3 a.m., so you can indulge well after the game is over.
Rickey’s Restaurant & Lounge
This low-key spot has been around for years, and for good reason: It’s reliable and affordable. If “bar food” was an entry in the dictionary, Ricky’s menu would be the picture. Wings, fries and other selections that would make a doctor wince are available here, perfectly paired with big screen televisions and cold beer.
Are your friend’s picky eaters? Then bring them here. Everything from pasta to seafood and salads will keep you full as the game goes on. What’s really nice is that it isn’t as loud as other sports bars; you can actually hear your friends on the TV. Then again, that might just depend on your friends. Pro tip: Use Rickey’s Louisiana Hot Sauce on the wings. You won’t regret it.
The Cage Restaurant & Sports Bar
Another place with all-day happy hour, The Cage is the place to visit when there’s a game on AND you’re starving. Gigantic portions are the norm, so expect to roll out of here or take a lot of leftovers home. The name is a NASCAR reference, but lovers of all sports are welcome here – including those looking for a Super Bowl watch party.
One of The Cage’s claims to fame is its popular Earnhardt Burger, a half-pound monster on a fresh Kaiser roll. Entrees like meatloaf, pork chops and ribs are already sizeable on their own, but the restaurant throws in two sides for good measure. The beer selection is mostly macro brews like Budweiser and Coors, but they have one good thing going for them: affordability – cheap beer is a good beer. Honestly, It might be a good time to renew that gym membership if you’ve fallen off the New Year’s resolution wagon; forget counting your calories at Rickey’s.
Bristol’s Burgers
When you think of a sports bar, a HOTEL sports bar isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind. Make no mistake, though: This sports bar at The Diplomat Beach Resort can hang with the best of them. As you’ve probably guessed from the name, the burgers here are a must. We’re not sure who Bristol is, but hats off to him/her for putting together a quality menu with prices that won’t break the bank (but will definitely break your diet).
Starters like mac and cheese tots and beer-battered onion rings will help balance all the tasty beer you’re bound to drink while here. Once you’ve scarfed both down, make room for the King BBQ Burger – it’s hard to resist the mix of BBQ braised short ribs, pepper jack and roasted mushrooms. Traditionalists need not to worry as you can create your own if you’re not feeling fancy. The first three toppings are on the house, and premium items like bacon or avocado will set you back just $2 per topping.
If you have a large group watching the Super Bowl, then consider one of the appropriately named Bowl Games, which are shareable drinks that can serve anywhere from two to four people. Our favorite is the Lemonade in the Shade Bowl, which consists of bourbon, fresh lemon, triple sec, simple soda and sprite. Prefer something sweeter? The Beach Bowl with two kinds of rum, blackberry brandy, banana liqueur, fresh lime, orange juice and pineapple might be more up your alley.
