Where to Drink in Hollywood, Florida

We’ve created a short list of bars that we think are worth visiting. Whether you’re a big beer fan or a craft cocktail connoisseur, Hollywood has something to quench your thirst.

Take a stroll or drive through Downtown Hollywood. What do you see? One of the first things you notice is the abundance of restaurants and bars in the area. If you’re hungry, you won’t be hungry for too long.

The same is true if you’re thirsty. Watering holes galore can be found in the neighborhood, but figuring out which establishments to frequent is a whole different story. “Is this place any good?” is something you’ll find yourself saying often as you explore the city — its laundry list of options can be overwhelming.

Fear not: We’ve created a short list of bars that we think are worth visiting. Whether you’re a big beer fan or a craft cocktail connoisseur, Hollywood has something to quench your thirst.

Old Hollywood Beerhouse

Long gone are the days when macro brews like Budweiser and Miller Lite were the highlight of a business’s menu. Old Hollywood Beerhouse is putting beer lists to shame by offering guests over 200 beers to choose from — that’s a lot more than you’ll find at most spots in South Florida.

The best part is that all of these beers are available for just $4. Yes, you read that correctly — it is not a typo. No matter the type of beer — India pale ale, lager, etc. — you can easily have a great time on a budget. There is one caveat, though: In order to serve so much beer at a low price, the establishment only accepts cash. If you’re coming out to drink, leave the plastic at home.

PRL Euro Café

PRL Euro Café is another notable beer bar in Downtown Hollywood. While it doesn’t offer as many beers as Old Hollywood Beerhouse, they do take credit cards. More than 100 bottles of beer are available at this charming dive bar, including the establishment’s house brew that won’t break the bank.

The place is worth checking out for the art and décor alone; you never know what cool works you’re going to find adorning the walls. If you do visit, we recommend you get there early. It’s not exactly the biggest of places, but its size is what adds to the bar’s awesome dive-bar image.

Whiskey Tango

Unlike the two spots listed above, Whiskey Tango is anything but low key. This popular late-night spot is always offering drink specials to complement the entertainment; you’ll find live bands and other performers getting the crowd rowdy almost every night. This isn’t the place you come to talk – this is where you come to party until the wee hours of the morning.

Should you get hungry, Whiskey Tango serves an assortment of bar bites including mac and cheese, fish and chips, and tacos. Some of our favorite nights to come in: Taco Tuesdays ($2 tacos) and Wing Wednesdays (50 cent wings). Wash all that food down with some cheap beer or cocktails, and you’re in for a good time.

American English Kitchen and Bar

American English Kitchen and Bar offers the best of both worlds to guests: delicious food and delicious libations. This recent addition to the Downtown Hollywood scene is already resonating with residents and visitors alike. Cocktails here are simple; don’t expect anything too “out of the box.” Don’t let that deter you, though. The drinks they do have are done right.

The Floradora — gin, Chambord, lime and ginger — and the Pineapple Margarita — tequila, pineapple, triple sec and lime — sound basic on paper but one they hit your palate, you’ll be on Cloud 9. We won’t blame you if you order a few of them.

Just make sure you get some food in you, too. As the name suggests, American English Kitchen and Bar offers some fun takes on traditional American cuisine and then some. Items like the pork cheek ragu, potato beignets and Singapore Chilli prawn will help you soak up all the booze you’ll soon find yourself drinking.

Chillbar

If you get tired of Downtown Hollywood, escape from the hustle and bustle at Chillbar. Located at the city’s beloved Yellow Green Farmers Market, the appropriately named bar is the perfect place to kick back and enjoy some monstrously sized drinks. Most of the cocktail selections skew sweet, giving them a refreshing touch that will help you cool off from the Florida heat.

Like your drink with a little kick? Check out the Lemon Bourbon Blast, which is made up of lemonade, ginger and bourbon. Otherwise, check out the Blooming Dragon, whose candied hibiscus flower alone is worth ordering this drink for. Thankfully, the establishment’s drink menu is balanced by a just-as-varied brunch menu that includes shrimp and grits, sausage and eggs, and blueberry pancakes. FYI: Chillbar is only open on weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
